Resistance Band Row

A band-based row that builds back strength with minimal equipment.

Equipment: Resistance bands

How to do it

  1. 1Anchor the band at chest height and step back to create tension, holding a handle in each hand.
  2. 2Pull your hands toward your torso, squeezing your shoulder blades together.
  3. 3Extend your arms back out with control, keeping tension on the band.

Common mistakes

  • Standing too close to the anchor, which removes tension at the start of the pull.
  • Using the lower back to help pull instead of keeping the torso still.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Resistance Band Row safe for beginners?

Yes. The Resistance Band Row is tagged as beginner-friendly in GetFitArchitect's exercise database, meaning it doesn't demand much prior strength or mobility. Start with a weight or resistance level where you can complete every rep with good form, and only add load once that feels controlled.

What muscles does the Resistance Band Row work?

The primary mover is your back. As a pull movement, it also involves your biceps and rear shoulders.

What can I substitute if I don't have resistance-bands for the Resistance Band Row?

The Pull-Up targets the same primary muscle with different equipment, so it's a reasonable swap if you don't have resistance-bands available.
