Dumbbell Reverse Lunge

A lunge variation stepping backward instead of forward, generally easier on the knees than a forward lunge while still building quad and glute strength.

Equipment: Dumbbells

How to do it

  1. 1Stand holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
  2. 2Step one foot backward and lower your hips until your front knee is bent to roughly 90 degrees.
  3. 3Keep your front knee tracking over your ankle and your torso upright.
  4. 4Push through your front foot to return to standing, then repeat on the other side.

Common mistakes

  • Taking a step that's too short, which pushes the front knee too far forward over the toes.
  • Leaning the torso forward instead of staying upright through the movement.
