Dumbbell Front Rack Squat

A front-loaded squat variation performed by holding dumbbells at shoulder height to build quad strength with an upright torso.

Equipment: Dumbbells

How to do it

  1. 1Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with your elbows lifted high and palms facing inward.
  2. 2Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, brace your core, and take a breath before descending.
  3. 3Push your hips back and bend your knees to squat down, keeping your elbows up and chest tall so the dumbbells stay stacked over your shoulders.
  4. 4Drive through your heels and midfoot to stand back up, keeping the dumbbells steady throughout.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the elbows drop, which causes the dumbbells to slide forward and pulls the torso into a forward lean.
  • Losing an upright torso and letting the knees cave inward under load.
